I made this poplar car for a Wood Design Survey class at ECU. We raced them as part of the critique, and my car won. Fail.
To make the finish I coated the car with a thin layer of margarine and baked it in the oven for 10 minutes at 325°F. I then gave it three coats of Tung Oil and a thin layer of paste wax on top of everything.
The axle and wheels both turn freely, and are greased with extra virgin olive oil. I attached framing bumpers to the front and rear of the car so that it bounces off of walls instead of crashing into them.
